July 2020 Favourites

Since I started this blog with the intention of sharing my design/creative process and inspiration, I’d like to share the rationale behind some of the videos I post on Youtube as well. When thinking of video ideas and how to execute them, I always go back to my core vision of what I want my videos to be: helpful, artistic, and with cohesive stories. Of course, I also want them to be true to my personality- confident yet quiet and reserved.

The second video I posted was about a few things that I am currently loving. Since I didn’t speak in my first video, I thought that introducing my favourites would be an interesting way of introducing who I am on Youtube. Sort of like a “we are what we consume” situation.

In terms of the story, I wanted it to seem like we’re on a picnic and simply talking as friends. I wanted the art direction to be romantic yet simple, so I decided to film under some trees to get soft light and beautiful organic silhouettes. To juxtapose the softness of the video, I used a more upbeat typographic presentation for the title and end scene with text popping up in pieces, and sort of scrappy. I also mimicked the shape of the basket in the title scene to make it less serious.

Enjoy the video!
